Bystander Assistance Course:
For almost ten years, we have been offering a Bystander Assistance Course to teach bikers what to do in a crash situation. The class is designed to meet three goals:
- To reduce injuries and fatalities to motorcyclists at the scene of a motorcycle crash.
- To reduce rescuer injury at the scene of a motorcycle crash.
- To enhance the effectiveness of EMS responders by having trained bystanders tend to the injured until professional help arrives.
The class teaches bystanders at the scene of a motorcycle crash how to triage life-threatening and non-life-threatening injuries, how to manage the crash scene, how to do rescue breathing, how to move an injured biker or their bike, how to properly remove a helmet*, and so on.
When we heard about this class from one of our staff members, Jason Waechter, The Motorcycle Lawyer sm, felt it was so important to be able to offer it to bikers that he put her through EMT school, which is a requirement to teach the medical side of the course. Jason himself teaches the legal portion of the class in Michigan.
