Daytona Bike Week, A Brief History...
Daytona Bike Week first took place in January, 1937, as the Daytona 200. It was a 3.2 mile motorcycle race on a beach and road course. This motorcycle race occurred every year until 1942, when it was discontinued by the American Motorcycling Association (AMA) because of World War II. Even though the race was cancelled, people still showed up for an unofficial party called Bike Week.
In February of 1947, the race resumed and was more popular than ever. The surrounding city was filled with motorcycle enthusiasts and the race had a record 176 riders. Because of construction along the beach, the last Daytona 200 race on the beach course was held in 1960. The following year, the race moved to Daytona International Speedway.
The event went through a rough period in the 70s and 80s, culminating in 1986 when Daytona Beach created a task force for the event and, ever since, things have run smoothly. The city of Daytona Beach now works hard to provide a great Bike Week year in and year out.
Approximately 500,000 people make their way to the rally area for the ten day event every year. The festivities include motorcycle racing, concerts, parties, and street festivals. Usually, the event takes place during the first full week of March. This event competes with the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally as the largest motorcycle rally in the United States.
Testimonials
"Jason made the insurance
company pay us over
$1,000,000 on our motorcycle
accident injury. He made
them pay my wage loss and
medical bills and didn't charge
a fee on the no-fault benefits."
